2019 Ultimate Reading Challenge

Happy new year, everyone. My 2018 reading challenge didn't go as well as I'd hoped, and I only managed to read 15 of the 49. You can be disappointed with me, I am disappointed with myself. Some of the categories were really difficult though - I don't read scary books for example, and there aren't a lot of books with characters named Rachel.

This year, I plan to set myself a more reasonable list of books to read - not as many, and have a bit more of a list focused on genres I currently read, or genres I would like to try. So no horror, no true crime, nothing set in my hometown (they're all just about the Troubles, coming from Belfast).

So my 2019 list is as follows:
  1. A book you read as a child
  2. A book published in 2019 - The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
  3. A book published in 2018
  4. A book published over 100 years ago
  5. A book set somewhere you'll visit this year
  6. A play
  7. A bestseller
  8. A book of short stories
  9. A funny book - Equal Rites (Discword #3, Witches #1) by Terry Pratchett
  10. A book with an appealing cover
  11. A book set in the place you live today
  12. A book you're embarrassed you haven't read yet
  13. A book you were given as a gift - Adventures with the Wife in Time by Neil Perryman
  14. A Man Booker prize winner
  15. A fantasy book
  16. A book with a male protagonist
  17. A book that is becoming a film or TV series in 2019
  18. A book you can finish in a day - Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  19. A book of poetry - Great Goddesses by Nikita Gill
  20. A book with a one-word title - Sanditon by Jane Austen
  21. A book based on a historical figure - Anne Boleyn: 500 Years of Lies by Hayley Nolan
  22. A non-fiction book - The Sun King and His Loves by Lucy Norton
  23. A retelling
  24. A book you never finished
  25. A book written by two authors
  26. A book by an author you've never read before
  27. A self-help book
  28. A book about or written by someone with an illness
  29. A book you picked with your eyes closed
  30. A book in a genre you don't typically read - The Little Book of Witchcraft by Kitty Guilsborough

Books I've Read: 9/30

I think that's enough to be getting on with this year, don't you? I'll keep you updated on what I am reading, and plan to be ticking these off regularly this year. But even if I just beat my 2018 score by the end of the year, I will be pretty happy with myself.
